Child abuse refers to any action by another person – adult or child – that causes significant harm to a child. It can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual abuse, and neglect.

Each form of abuse has its own signs and effects, but all can have a lasting impact on a child’s physical and psychological well-being.

Recently, a man in Cebu City was arrested for hitting his nephew with a bamboo stick. The incident happened because the uncle got angry when his nephew pushed his son while they were playing.

The CCTV footage shows the man yelling at the 7-year-old boy in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City, followed by several strikes with a bamboo stick. Two women intervened and managed to stop him from hitting the child further.

The boy suffered wounds and bruises from the incident. Family members reported the incident to the barangay authorities, leading to the man’s arrest.

According to Patrolwoman Rhea Partosa of the WCPD Labangon Police Station, the suspect was angered because the boy had allegedly pushed his son during playtime. The victim is now under the care of the barangay and is recovering.

Barangay Labangon Captain stated that they will assist in filing a complaint against the suspect. The Cebu City local government will also help investigate the incident and look into providing assistance to the victim.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will wait for the LGU’s report before conducting a debriefing for the child. “Because this is a case of child abuse, the child is traumatized by the experience, and the parents are also traumatized in a sense,” said DSWD 7 Director Shalain Lucero.

In a previous report, 3-year-old victim of child abuse is now getting better after mistreatment

The suspect will be charged with violating Republic Act 7610, the Child Protection Act.
