A traditional jeepney is a type of public transportation commonly found in the Philippines. These iconic vehicles have become a symbol of Filipino culture and are known for their crowded seating arrangements.
Jeepney is a modified version of military jeeps left by American forces after World War II. Typically, they have a long body with open sides, allowing passengers to hop on and off easily. They are usually decorated with colorful paintings, decals, and adornments, reflecting the creativity and artistry of Filipino culture.
Inside, passengers sit on parallel benches facing each other, with additional seats often installed in the middle aisle to maximize seating capacity. Recently, a TikTok user “rafdump09,” shared a video of a long jeepney that caught everyone’s eye as it traversed the streets. The post immediately spread like wildfire on social media and elicited reactions from the netizens.
Rafael Gacillos, a student from Silang, Cavite, shared his encounter with the long jeepney, captured in a video posted on April 17, 2024. Gacillos expressed his surprise at seeing such a distinctive mode of transportation, unlike any he had encountered before.
The unusual length of the jeepney and its capacity to accommodate more passengers than the typical jeepney caught Gacillos’ attention. However, despite his curiosity, Gacillos hesitated to board the vehicle, fearing he might have to wait longer for it to fill up with fellow commuters.
