After the verdict, Cedric Lee surrendered voluntarily.
CEDRIC LEE – The businessman is now under the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation hours after the guilty verdict.
Personalities Cedric Lee, Deniece Cornejo, and two others such as Ferdinand Guerrero and Simeon Palma Raz have been sentenced to a reclusion perpetua. In a 94-page ruling, Judge Mariam Biem of Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 153 sentenced them to life in prison for the assault and extortion of Vhong Navarro in 2014.
Lee and Cornejo with two others were found guilty beyond reasonable doubt of serious illegal detention for ransom under Article 267 of the Revised Penal Code.
They also jointly have to pay Navarro Php 100,000.00 in civil indemnity, Php 100,000.00 as moral damages, and Php 100,000.00 as exemplary damages.
Based on the ruling, the restrain and the deed to extort money from Navarro was “all too apparent” and noted the unusual event when they gathered in one place a few hours before the assault to Navarro occurred.
Following the verdict, the Philippine National Police (PNP) called out the convicted personalities to surrender as they were found guilty of illegally detaining the It’s Showtime host.
7:30 p.m. of Thursday night, Lee surrendered voluntarily. At 8 p.m., he arrived at the NBI headquarters in Quezon City. He decided to surrender while his lawyers were left to appeal before the Court Of Appeals. This way is accordingly better than hiding as he can freely talk to his loved ones and lawyers.
His mugshot and fingerprints were taken after the surrender. He remained confident that the truth will come out as long as the process is followed.
