Beyond entertainment, she is recognized for her charitable endeavors and support for different social issues. Throughout her professional trajectory, Pokwang has consistently captivated and uplifted audiences through her wit and empathy.

Pokie is among those who hold the view that children aren’t obligated to support their parents in their later years. Through her Instagram story, the actress emphasized that if her children lead fulfilling lives, they needn’t concern themselves with providing for her.

“Responsibilidad ba ng anak na tulungan ang kanilang magulang kapag sila ay matanda na?” she wrote. “Para sakin, NO! Basta ayusin lang nila buhay nila at itaguyod ang mga anak nila ng maayos, masaya na ako.”

Pokwang is the mother of two daughters: Ria Mae, born from a previous relationship, and Malia, her youngest, from her former partner Lee O’Brian. Tragically, she also had a son from her first marriage who passed away due to a congenital brain condition.

The conversation regarding children’s responsibility towards their parents was initiated by Dani Barretto through a vlog titled “The Distinction Between Utang na Loob (debt of gratitude) and Giving Back.” She emphasized that when children support their parents, it should stem from love and willingness rather than obligation.

John Arcilla further contributed to the discussion, asserting that providing for and caring for one’s parents in their old age is a fundamental obligation that should not be based on a sense of indebtedness.
