Pia Wurtzbach talked about the so-called “missed opportunities”
Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach reacted to “sayang Pia” comments from people from the time she started her acting career until she became a beauty queen.
Pia went through a lot before achieving the spot where she is now. She has become an inspiration for many women who also want to reach their dreams just like her. Her pageant has inspired many because she did not give up until she won the Binibining Pilipinas-Universe title.
She had to join the national pageant thrice before achieving the victory she was aiming for. During the the recent “Sayang? No, I’m worth it” campaign launch of the international beauty brand L’Oreal Paris, based on the article in The Philippine Star, Pia talked about the times when she would hear people saying “sayang Pia.”
Pia Wurtzbach shared that when she entered showbiz, she was not given a loveteam partner, which was an unusual thing for a newbie actress. It is because she was too tall to be paired with other actors.
“Sayang ‘di n’ya tinanggap ‘yung mga sexy na roles. Chance na n’ya ‘yun pero sinayang,” she shared the common comment she received back then. The fact that she has a provincial accent also became a hindrance for her to receive bigger roles.
“Sayang, pwede sana ilagay sa roles pero rinig na rinig namin na taga-Cagayan de Oro s’ya. Rinig na rinig namin ‘yung Bisaya accent n’ya tuwing may mga dialog s’ya,” the third Pinay Miss Universe said.
When the time came when her showbiz stints could no longer provide for her family, as a breadwinner, Pia had to find another way to earn. This pushed her to go to the United Kingdom to find more opportunities. She became a waitress from being an actress and this became another “sayang” in her life.
“Nu’ng nag-culinary naman ako, which is a male-dominated space, sayang din, ako lang ‘yung babae sa kusina. Ayaw nila agad ibigay sa’kin ‘yung trabaho kasi akala nila hindi ko kaya buhatin ‘yung mga pots and pans. So nag-trial muna ako bago ko nakuha,” Pia shared.
