Several Lifeless Cats In Cat Pound In Cavite Are Being Eaten By Other Felines

Corpses of Cats at Cat Pound In Cavite Elicit Reactions Online

ANIMAL CRUELTY – Several lifeless cats in a cat pound in Barangay San Jose, Cavite are being eaten by other felines.

The City Veterinary Office of Dasmariñas launches an investigation at cat pound in Cavite due to suspected negligence towards the feline residents. The investigation comes after a video showing several cats feeding on the corpses of their fellow felines circulated online.

The situation at the cat pound was discovered when a resident named Yvette Mayo visited the facility to assist a friend in locating their missing pet cat. “Natataranta na ako kasi first time ko na makakita ng ganon, Galit na galit ako, umiyak talaga ako doon, humagulgol ako,” Mayo said.

Yvette suspects that the cats at the pound were not being properly fed, forcing them into a situation where they resorted to cannibalism. The video reveals several cats appearing weak, with their living quarters filled with filth.

Additionally, there was a lack of food provided for the cats, prompting Yvette to take matters into her own hands and feed them herself.

Mayo claims that they discussed with the barangay chairman the possibility of transferring the cats to a shelter. However, she was shocked to learn that around 20 cats had been released the following day.

Barangay San Jose chairman named Jeff Frani insists that they did not neglect the cats. He stated that the cats were fed twice a day by two caretakers.

“Ang katotohanan po niyan may dalawa akong tagapag-alaga ng mga pusa, kasi hindi naman po talaga namin mababantayan 24 oras so nung napapansin nila pag pinapakain nag-aaway-away ‘yung mga pusa,” Frani said.

The cat pound suspects that three cats died due to fighting amongst themselves. It is possible that some of the cats became aggressive or territorial, leading them to consume their deceased companions.

Veterinarian Dr. Ferds Recio suggests that severe hunger might have driven the cats to consume the bodies of their fellow cats. If it is proven that there was negligence or abuse towards the cats, barangay officials could be held accountable for violating the Animal Welfare Act.

The Dasmariñas City Veterinary Office has visited the cat pound in Barangay San Jose to ascertain if negligence indeed occurred. The office temporarily holds the operation until the systems are fixed.
