Xyriel Manabat received these comments on her looks
Kapamilya actress Xyriel Manabat, who started her acting career at a young age, has this reaction to comments that she is not beautiful.
Xyriel started as a child star. She was the third runner-up in Star Circle Kid Quest: Search for the Kiddie Idol in 2009. From that, she was given opportunities to be in Kapamilya teleseryes.
With her talent in portraying her roles, she captured the hearts of many Filipino viewers. She took a break from acting when her child star era ended. However, she returned and once again showcased her acting prowess.
In a recent interview, based on the article in The Philippine Star, Xyriel admitted that she never had confidence when it came to her looks.
“Actually, when I started entering showbiz when I was younger, even though I had plenty of shows, I never gave (myself) that confidence or appreciation that I deserve,” Xyriel Manabat shared.
In her young mind, she already received comments on her physical being. “As a child, laging tumatak sa akin or laging comment sa akin, like I would always hear this from my co-workers or from my family, is that, ‘You are a good actress but you are not beautiful,” she said.
The young actress also said that in the industry right now, it seems that talent is not enough, physical appearance also matters. Receiving these kinds of comments, Xyriel focused on her personal life when she decided to take her showbiz hiatus.
She absorbed the comments on her looks and started to believe that she was just good at acting but she was not beautiful. Eventually, as she matured, Xyriel understood that people have different perceptions of “beauty.”
“(It’s like) for them, yung galing ko, yung ganda ko lang in acting nakukuha nila, OK. I mean there are people who would appreciate my beauty, what’s inside, talent or appearance-wise,” she said.
Realizing that there are people who appreciate her beauty, Xyriel said that this pushed her to appreciate herself as well. She is embracing this. The young actress said that she would tell herself that she is beautiful every time she wakes up, no matter how she looks.
“I would convince myself na mali sila, maganda ka at magaling ka,” Xyriel Manabat stressed.
