Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Occidental Mindoro, February 1, 2024

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.9 magnitude quake in Occidental Mindoro today, February 1, 2024. Here are the details.

Following the 5.1 magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Sur several days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake hit Occidental Mindoro today with a magnitude of 4.9.

The earthquake today that struck Occidental Mindoro, Thursday, February 1, 2024, was tectonic in origin.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Occidental Mindoro was located at 13.51°North, 120.63°East – 013 km North 57° West of Abra De Ilog. It had a depth of focus of 011 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected from the said quake but not aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. The following instrumental intensities were recorded:

    • Batangas City, Cuenca, Mataas na kahoy, and San Luis, BATANGAS
  • Intensity II
    • City of Tagaytay, CAVITE
  • Intensity III
    • City of Calapan, ORIENTAL MINDORO
  • Intensity IV
    • Abra de Ilog and Mamburao, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO
