Following the negative and funny reactions to the viral edited photo of the Lotto winner, PCSO General Manager Mel Robles explained why they had to edit the photo.

In an interview on GMA’s morning show Unang Hirit, based on the article in Balita, Robles said that they had to do that for “security purposes.” He pointed out that this is really happening everywhere in the world where there’s a lottery.

Buong mundo po wala po talagang nagpapakita [ng mukha] unless gusto niya. Sabi ko nga kung natatawa sila na inedit ‘yong palda eh sa ibang bansa po mascot pa nga ang isinusuot,” he said.

Kapuso veteran broadcaster and Unang Hirit host Arnold Clavio clarified if they really edited the photo of the winner, the Gen. Manager said that they indeed edited the photo.

Ine-edit po talaga ‘yon… ang objective po talaga is to keep the anonymity. Pero… we have to show the people na may totoong nanalo at the same time without violating naman ‘yong privacy niya…” Robles explained.

On the other hand, he stressed that a real person won the jackpot last December 28. The said winner, who is a 47-year-old housewife, wanted to invest her winnings in business, buy a new house, and save the rest for her two children.
