PAGASA Says Shear Line and Amihan to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that the shear line and northeast monsoon will affect the country’s weather conditions.

On Monday (January 15, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The shear line and amihan will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA reported that the shear line is affecting the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao and will bring rain showers over several areas. Amihan will be affecting Luzon and the rest of Visayas.

The shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Southern Leyte, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region.

Possible flash floods or landslides are expected in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light rains over the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol Region.

“We are expecting that at least in the following days, the northeast monsoon will continue to prevail so we can enjoy the slightly chilly [temperatures] especially the cool evenings,” specialist Obet Badrina said

The monsoon will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila, Western Visayas, and the rest of Luzon.

The shear line and localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country. Flash floods or landslides are possible during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over eastern sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will be rough. The remaining parts of the country will have moderate to rough surrounding sea conditions.

PAGASA also raised gale warning in the following areas:

  • The northern seaboard of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon
  • Batanes
  • Cagayan Including Babuyan Islands
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Northern and Eastern Coasts of Catanduanes
  • The eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao
  • Northern Samar
  • Eastern Samar
  • Leyte
  • Southern Leyte
  • Dinagat Islands
  • Surigao Del Norte Including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands
  • Surigao Del Sur
