Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Surigao del Sur, December 20, 2023
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.3 magnitude quake in Surigao del Sur today, December 20, 2023. Here are the details.
Following the 4.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Sarangani a few days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province, Surigao del Sur. According to the agency, the quake that hit Surigao del Sur today had a magnitude of 4.3.
The earthquake today that struck Surigao del Sur, Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 08:45 a.m., was tectonic in origin. It is reportedly the afterschock of the magnitude 7.4 tremor that shook the province offshore last December 2.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Sur was located at 08.46°North, 126.48°East – 018 km North 56° East of Hinatuan. It had a depth of focus of 029 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensity was recorded as well.
