TAPE Inc.’s camp spoke about the Eat Bulaga title
Television And Production Exponents (TAPE) Inc. was asked if they are ready for a replacement once their appeal to use Eat Bulaga is not granted.
To recall, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHIL) released a decision in favor of TVJ (Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon) for the rightful owner of the show’s trademark.
However, TAPE insisted that they have the right over this and expressed that they are not giving up the fight yet as they will file an appeal.
Based on the article in GMA Entertainment, the process is still ongoing regarding the granting the ownership of the Eat Bulaga trademark. The law stated that TAPE could still file an appeal after the release of IPOPHIL’s decision.
TAPE’s legal counsel Atty. Maggie Garduque said that, as of now, they can still use the title of the noontime show because Joey de Leon was not granted by the IPO yet the right to own the trademark.
Until no final decision is made, TAPE will continue to use the title. Then, the lawyer was asked if their camp has a ready replacement once their appeal will fail, she answered, “Ang sa amin po sa management ng TAPE Inc. is kung which comes to worst na kung magkaroon na ng final decision halimbawa sinabi na ng Supreme Court na, ‘Hindi n’yo na puwedeng gamitin ‘yan,’ susunod naman po kami and we will abide with the decision.”
Garduque also said that they will no let go of Eat Bulaga until the final decision, because their appeal will be put to waste if they do not use the title. The TAPE legal counsel also stressed that they are ready to abide by the decision to their appeal.
She also said that TAPE’s creatures will surely come up with a good title if the worst-case scenario happens to them. “I’m very confident with our creatives that they can come up with a very good idea kung ano man ang ipapalit sa pangalan ng Eat Bulaga. As of now po, we’ll still be using Eat Bulaga at ‘yun pa rin po ang gagamitin namin,” she said.
