Female Traffic Refuses to Accept Bribe from Motorist Who Commits Violation
A female traffic enforcer earns praise online for refusing to accept a bribe from an errant motorist who committed a violation.
A traffic enforcer from the Inter-agency Council for Traffic (i-ACT) has shown courage and honesty after a driver, who violated the policy by using the EDSA Busway, tried to bribe her to avoid getting a citation ticket and paying big fines.
The incident took place as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) introduced stricter penalties on Monday (November 13, 2023), for those who misuse the EDSA bus lanes.
On the very first day of implementing the tougher fines, a taxi driver was caught violating the EDSA Busway rules near Magallanes. The driver, in an attempt to avoid penalties, offered a bunch of money to i-ACT officer Jennifer Salen. However, she firmly refused the bribe, capturing the entire incident on video.
In the video, the driver is seen offering cash, but Officer Salen responds with dignity, saying, “Kung kinuha ko yan dadagdag pa yan sa violation mo.”
Despite the motorist’s attempts to argue, the i-ACT personnel stands her ground and instructs the EDSA Busway violator to present his vehicle’s official receipts and certificate of registration.
Eventually, Salen issued a citation ticket to the taxi driver, with fines amounting to P5,000 for the first offense.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista commended Officer Salen for being an exemplary model for other traffic officers. “I commend i-ACT officer Jennifer Salen for her display of outstanding integrity after a traffic violator tried to test her through bribery,” he said.

He expressed his support for the MMDA’s efforts to enforce rules on the dedicated bus lanes, emphasizing the importance of encouraging the public to use public transportation and ease traffic on one of the busiest roads in the country.
