Security Guard in Manila Takes Woman and 3 Children as Hostage

A woman and her three children were rescued after they were taken hostage by a security guard in Baseco Compound, Manila.

The suspect, identified as Justin Saguin, was armed with a bladed weapon at the time of the incident. According to the police, Saguin, who was a visitor in the area, entered the premises abruptly and held the mother and her three children, aged five, two, and one, hostage.

Manila Police District Chief, Police Colonel Arnold Ibay said that the suspect appeared to be distressed and disturbed. He demanded to speak to his sibling, suggesting that he was facing some personal issues.

“According to those na nakainuman niya, balisa raw ito, disturbed, at ang demand niya, kausapin ang kapatid niya at may problema siya,” Ibay said.

Thankfully, the police managed to apprehend the suspect and free the terrified mother and her children from their suspect. They also confiscated the bladed weapon from Saguin during the operation.

The suspect has since expressed regret for his actions and is set to face charges for violating Republic Act No. 7610, also known as the Anti-Child Abuse Law, as well as charges for slight illegal detention and illegal possession of a deadly weapon.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development has announced plans to provide counseling and support for the children affected by this ordeal. It is important to help them recover from the trauma they experienced and ensure their emotional well-being.
