Autopsy Report Says Grade 5 Student Did Not Die Due to Teacher’s Slap

Autopsy Report Confirms: Grade 5 Student Did Not Die Due to Teacher’s Slap

An autopsy report has revealed that a Grade 5 student did not die due to the physical impact of the teacher’s slap.

Over the past few days, the tragic death of a grade 5 student named Francis Jay Gumikib after being slapped by his teacher became one of the most discussed topics online. However, the controversy took a new turn with the release of the autopsy report.

On Wednesday afternoon, October 14, 2023, Antipolo City Police Chief Lt. Col. Ryan Manongdo released the autopsy report, claiming that the 14-year-old victim, Francis Jay Gumikib, died of “natural causes” triggered by a rare condition.

Autopsy Report

Manongdo stated that the teacher’s slap had “nothing to do” with the victim’s untimely death. The autopsy report shows that Gumikib died of “cerebral edema secondary to intracerebral hemorrhage, consistent with a ruptured artery with arteriovenous malformation.”

Cerebral edema is a medical term that refers to the swelling of the brain. At the same time, intracerebral hemorrhage is a type of stroke that occurs when tiny arteries in the brain rupture. The autopsy results have been shared with the student’s parents, and they have been encouraged to seek expert medical opinions should they have any doubts about the findings.

Notably, the teacher’s actions and the student’s death were found to be unrelated. The teacher did indeed slap the student, as confirmed by evidence and testimonies, but this act did not lead to the fatal medical condition revealed in the autopsy report.

Autopsy Report

We proved that he was slapped. No question. Sufficient evidence and testimonies were provided to us, and these are all corroborated,” Manongdo said.

The Antipolo City police are set to file a complaint against the teacher for their alleged violation of Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.
