Jake Cuenca On Why The Iron Heart Kontrabida Role Is Most Challenging

Jake Cuenca talked about his “kontrabida” role in ‘The Iron Heart’

Kapamilya actor Jake Cuenca reveals why he called his “kontrabida” role in the primetime action-drama series The Iron Heart the most challenging.

Jake is one of the most versatile actors of his generation. He has done leading man roles and at times, he would do the antagonist character. One of his recent acting projects is the primetime series in which he was the antagonist of Richard Gutierrez’s character. This is their reunion project after 20 years.

In a recent interview, based on the article in PUSH, Jake shared that he enjoyed portraying Eros in The Iron Heart which is already in its finale week. He also shared what made him excited to shoot their final scenes in Japan.

Jake Cuenca said that he loves the ending of the series and he calls this project a man’s drama.

To be honest, it really resonated with me and with the type of drama I like to watch. It really resonates with me as a man, parang nagsasanay tayo ‘di ba when we see drama, it’s always love story between a domestic drama, but I also like the movie A Very Good Girl, na ang ganda rin ng movie because that story was based on a conflict and not a love story ‘di ba?” the Kapamilya actor said.

Jake also expressed that he is proud of the success that their series achieved. He pointed out that one of the reasons behind the pride that he felt was that romance was not the focal point of the story.

It is about the rivalry that surfaced between his and Richard’s characters after their friendship ended. For him, this kind of dynamic between two men onscreen is trickier than the usual male-female tandem.

He said that he and Richard had to create a friendship bond onscreen for their characters and then, break it as they became rivals.

“Sabi ko nga this is the most challenging kontrabida role I’ve done because I have to be sensitive with it, I couldn’t attack it, I cannot do the usual intense [acting]. So, they all really challenged me to do it in a different way. In a way I never see I could do. So for me, watch the end talaga,” Jake Cuenca said.

He added that their directors were also challenging them. Jake pointed out that their series is in the drama genre and they have to make the viewers cry without them showing tears and this was a challenge for them.
