Here are the comments of the netizens to this banter of Joey De Leon in EAT’s “Gimme 5” segment.
JOEY DE LEON – Another mental health joke? Netizens online have these reactions to this joke of the Kapuso host.
Comedy is all about timing. But at the present time where noontime shows are at a time where they are under the microscope of MTRCB, the jokes must not be made only at the right time but also with the right content.
And in the recent episode of EAT, people online called out Joey De Leon for his subtle joke about a sensitive matter.
During the Gimme 5 segment, a contestant was asked about the things that are usually seen hanging in the neck. The contestant was not able to answer all the correct answers and at the end of the timer, in his usual cool voice, De Leon expressed, “Lubid. Ludbid baka nakakalimutan niyo. Lubid.”
Lubid or rope is oftentimes used as a representation of self-destruction by hanging. And this particular topic is quite sensitive. Anything about mental health is sensitive and maligning comments about this matter seemed to easily trigger a lot of people online.
This joke was tasteless to many and some even aired that this topic must not be used as a subject for a joke. To recall, this is not the first time De Leon has been called out for his jokes.
De Leon was called out for his ‘sana masakyan kita’ joke. This was in 2020 and many people found this joke disrespectful. And just this June, he made a joke about the ABS-CBN franchise which also drew flak online.
