EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Surigao Del Norte today, Thursday, September 21, 2023. Here are the details.

Following the 4.7 magnitude earthquake in Oriental Mindoro a few days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. The quake hit Surigao Del Norte. According to the agency, it has a magnitude of 4.2.

The earthquake today that struck Surigao Del Norte, Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 04:22 p.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Burgos.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao Del Norte was located at 10.32°North, 126.24°East – 038 km North 28° East of Burgos. It had a depth of focus of 012 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording bureau, no intensity was logged at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in the following areas:

  • Surigao City, Surigao del Norte
  • Hinunangan, Southern Leyte
