Vice Ganda Criminal Case, Joey Reyes Has This Reaction

Director-writer Joey Reyes has this reaction to the recent issue of Vice Ganda and Ion Perez.

It’s Showtime hosts Vice Ganda and Ion Perez face criminal cases and this is the reaction of Joey Reyes, an award-winning director and writer.

The Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas, Inc. (KSMBPI) has filed a criminal charge against It’s Showtime hosts and real-life couple Vice Ganda and Ion Perez.

This is because of the cake-icing incident of Vice and Ion that went viral online.

The complaints were submitted to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office last Monday, September 11. According to KSMBPI, Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code was violated.

The charges filed by KSMBPI versus Vice and Ion also appeared to be in support of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). The said violation is accordingly related to Section 6 of Article 201 and Republic Act No.10175, or Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

Article 201 penalizes “immoral doctrines, obscene publications and exhibitions, and indecent shows”.

Amid the issues and controversies of the superstar, award-winning director-writer Joey Reyes believes that these should not be the reason for the comedian to not be recognized.

This September 29, he is bound to receive an award from the 3rd Philippine Film Industry Month (PFIM). This event will be held at Acacia Hotel Manila in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Regarding the clamor over the icing incident on the noontime show, Reyes felt like it earned overreactions. He believes that there are a lot of incidents that have happened on television worse than what the hosts have done which can be “more criminal in context than eating icing in their fingers”.

“It’s a bandwagon mentality, e. It’s a bandwagon mentality but I hope, you know, eventually reason will win out, OK,” he added.

He is among those who do not approve of their “mischievous” gesture but not among those who have already reached the point of filing a criminal case. Reyes expressed, “And it is so sad that so many people are being involved in it, OK. It’s so sad. In a way, it is unfair to Vice and to his partner.”

This incident seeing how people have reacted to it also showed what kind of society we have now. It showed the becoming of our society and the dangers of social media.
