Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Batanes, September 15, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 3.7 magnitude quake in Batanes today, Friday, September 15, 2023.

Following the 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Cagayan a few days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. The quake hit a part of Batanes. According to the agency, it has a magnitude of 3.7.

The earthquake today that struck Batanes, Friday, September 15, 2023, at 06:42 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Sabtang.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Batanes was located at 20.14°North, 121.41°East – 052 km South 66° West of Sabtang. It had a depth of focus of 023 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensity was logged as well.
