Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Oriental Mindoro, August 24, 2023
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.1 magnitude quake in Oriental Mindoro today, August 24, 2023.
Following the 4.2 magnitude earthquake in Davao Occidental yesterday, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. The quake hit Oriental Mindoro. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 5.1.
The earthquake today that struck Oriental Mindoro, Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 01:38 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Bansud in Oriental Mindoro.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 12.87°North, 121.35°East – 012 km North 88° West of Bansud. It had a depth of focus of 001 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, the following intensities and instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:

- Bansud, and Gloria, Oriental Mindoro
- Intensity V
- Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro

- Intensity III
- City of Calapan, and Roxas, Oriental Mindoro
- Intensity IV
- Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro
