Miss Universe Philippines Announces No More Screening For 2024 Pageant

Candidates for Miss Universe Philippines next year will come from “Partners”

The Miss Universe Philippines Organization announced that for the 2024 pageant, there will be a screening that will happen.

For the longest time and as part of the tradition of past pageants, aspiring candidates will undergo screening. In some instances, this can have several stages before the official candidates will be announced.

For next year’s pageant, MUPH will no longer hold a screening. Based on the report from Inquirer, the national pageant organization launched the Accredited Partnerships Program.

Under this program, “accredited partners” will have the authority to choose representatives from different cities, towns, provinces, and even overseas communities for the national pageant.

MUPH National Director Shamcey Supsup-Lee said that since the organization was formally established in 2020, they already had the goal to launch this program. However, due to the pandemic, they weren’t able to push this through.

But now we’re finally on our fifth year, hopefully, we can cement our new system. And hopefully, with this new direction in mind, it will make up for a better venue or a better platform for these girls to be the best versions of themselves, and represent the Philippines on the international stage,” the former beauty queen said.

Just recently, Shamcey signed an agreement with the MUPH accredited partner in Cagayan de Oro City, realtor Rejellaine “Jell” Vidad. The national pageant organization, as of writing, is already able to sign contracts with 50 accredited partners around the country and communities abroad.

Shamcey said that they are targeting 80 partners and they are hopeful to reach this goal. She added that this venture came from what they have noticed during the pageant.

The former beauty queen shared that for the past pageants, they saw how the candidates struggled, especially if they have no camp that will support them all the way. They are hoping that through this program, the struggles will be lessened with the help of accredited partners.

“It’s not just about getting more girls. I think it’s also helping women who don’t have the resources to come to Manila. The accredited partners’ responsibility is not just to hold the pageant and look for a representative of their province or their cities. They will also help the girl, to assist her in providing what she will need,” the Miss Universe Philippines director explained.
