REQUIREMENTS FOR GSIS UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT – Here are the documents needed in applying for the claim of this Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) benefit offer.

One of the biggest social insurance institutions in the Philippines is the Government Service Insurance System. It is more popularly called GSIS. Most of the members of this state-run institution are current employees of the government and the public sector. Meanwhile, it also has a lot of members who are former government employees.

GSIS members may be entitled to the different offers of the state-run social insurance agency which includes benefits and loans. Aside from the GSIS Cash Loan and the GSIS Pension, another offer is the Unemployment Benefit which aims to financially assist those members who got involuntary separated from work due to the abolition of their office or position.

Who are qualified to file for a claim of this benefit offer of the Government Service Insurance System? Here are the eligibility requirements for the GSIS Unemployment Benefit claim application:

  • the GSIS member was a permanent employee at the time of separation;
  • the separation was involuntary due to the abolition of member-employee’s office or position resulting from reorganization; and,
  • the member has been paying the contributions for at least one (1) year prior to separation

According to the GSIS, a member who has been in service for at least 15 years before the separation from work is entitled to the Separation Benefits instead of the Unemployment Benefit pursuant to Republic Act No. 8291.

Apart from the qualifications, there are documents that you must prepare and submit in applying for the loan offer. Here are the documentary requirements for the GSIS Unemployment Benefit claim application:

  • duly-accomplished Application Form for Unemployment Benefits Under RA 8291
  • Service Record indicating last day of service/actual date of involuntary separation , and Leaves of Absences With Pay or Without Pay
  • Declaration of Pendency/Non-Pendency of case prior to electronic crediting or check printing.

The application for this GSIS benefit offer must be made at any branch of the government agency nearest to you. Also, it should be filed within four (4) years from the date of separation from work.
