The SSS Unemployment Benefit is designed to financially assist members who involuntarily lost their job. The state-run social insurance institution has set different lists of requirements in filing for unemployment claim compared to the requirements for SSS Disability Benefit, the requirements for SSS Death Benefit, the requirements for SSS Maternity Benefit, and the requirements for the SSS Funeral Benefit.

Here are the eligibility requirements for the SSS Unemployment Benefit claim application:

  • an active member of the Social Security System before the involuntary separation from work
  • at least 18 years of age but not over 60 years old
  • has posted at least 36 monthly contributions within the last 12 months prior to losing job
  • has not received any other SSS benefit
  • has no unsettled SSS Unemployment Benefit within the last three (3) years before the date of the current unemployment started

  • proof of involuntary separation from employment such as a certificate from the latest employer
  • Affidavit of Termination of Employment

According to the Social Security System, there are exceptions to the coverage of the Unemployment Benefit. The following reasons for separation from work disqualifies the member from filing a claim:

To apply for the SSS Unemployment Benefit, bring your documents to a branch of the Social Security System nearest to you. You may also go for an SSS registration online where the services of the state institution are also offered.
