NDRRMC Says 108 Areas in Luzon Placed Under State of Calamity
NDRRMC reported that 108 areas in Luzon were placed under a state of calamity due to Typhoon Egay and enhanced habagat.
On Tuesday (August 1, 2023), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council announced that 108 areas in six regions in Luzon have been declared under a state of calamity.
Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) are among the regions affected. Despite the fact that Typhoon Egay has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the long-lasting impacts of both Egay and Habagat have had an enormous effect on millions of Filipinos.
According to the NDRRMC’s latest status assessment, the disaster has affected about 2,452,738 people, 668,974 families, and 4,164 barangays. Heavy rains, powerful winds, and flooding caused damage on the residents, causing many to flee their houses for safety.
As a result, 50,467 people from 13,718 families took safety in 736 evacuation facilities, while an additional 262,008 people from 63,086 families were forced to seek shelter elsewhere.
Fortunately, the NDRRMC announced that the number of people missing as a result of Typhoons Egay and Habagat has dropped. Seven previously reported missing people have been found, leaving only 13 people unaccounted for as of this writing.

The death toll, however, remained a dim statistic, with 25 recorded fatalities. Two of them have been confirmed, while the remaining 23 are still being investigated.
According to the report, a total of P153,900,517.83 in assistance has been offered, with the goal of alleviating urgent needs and assisting in the recovery of towns ravaged by Typhoons Egay and Habagat.
