JUST IN: 4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Surigao del Norte

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Surigao del Norte, July 25, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.4 magnitude quake in Surigao del Norte, Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

Following the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that jolted Davao Oriental last week, another significant quake was recorded by Phivolcs or the the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the quake-recording agency in the Philippines. The quake hit a part of Eastern Samar. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.4.

The earthquake that struck Surigao del Norte today, Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 09:00 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Santa Monica.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Norte was located at 10.27°North, 126.02°East – 028 km North 05° West of Santa Monica. It had a depth of focus of 009 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, the following instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:

    Intensity I

    • Quinapondan, Eastern Samar
    • Catbalogan City, Samar
    • Hinunangan, Southern Leyte

    Intensity II

    • Borongan City, Eastern Samar
