The Iconic Love Bus Returns to Makati, Bringing Nostalgia and Sustainable Transportation

In a delightful surprise for commuters in Makati, the iconic Love Bus has made a triumphant return, evoking nostalgia among commuters.

A passenger named Lota Ledda who experienced the Love Bus during its previous run, expressed her surprise and fond memories upon seeing the vehicle once again. She reminisced the good old time with her ex-boyfriend.

“During that time yung bf (boyfriend) ko, ex-bf ko pinipick up niya ako and then we ride the Love Bus. That’s the reason why alam mo na there’s a little fond memory about it. Yes, of course because this is the only airconditioned bus during that time and it was very comfortable,” she recalled.

Iconic Love Bus

The Love Bus first appeared on Metro Manila routes in the 1970s and immediately became a symbol of luxuriousness and comfort due to its status as the sole air-conditioned bus at the time. However, the service was discontinued after a few years because it was financially unsustainable.

Misha Quimpo, Circuit Makati’s Estate Development Manager, underlined the nostalgia and personal emotions associated with the Love Bus. “We all have our own memories of the Love Bus, and its return brings back those cherished moments,” she explained.

Because it is now electric and solar-powered, the new Love Bus is a stunning accomplishment of modern engineering. The current Love Bus is smaller than its predecessor and can accommodate up to 22 seated guests.

The new Love Bus’s environmental benefits were noted by Jayson Cavallar, Operations Manager of Makati Loop Transport Corporation, who stated, “Malaking tulong ito kasi walang emission, walang usok, pure electric,”

The Love Bus’s minimum fare is P14, with discounted fate of P11.50 for senior citizens, pregnant women, and those with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all passengers.

Currently, two Love Bus units are serving limited routes and following a specific schedule in Makati. However, by October, the number of Love Bus units will increase to nine, expanding their reach and availability.

The revival of the Love Bus not only brings back fond memories but also signifies a commitment to sustainable transportation solutions. With its electric and solar-powered technology, the Love Bus sets an example for eco-friendly public transportation initiatives.

The reintroduction of this beloved mode of transport aligns with Makati’s efforts to promote a greener and more sustainable city.
