Vlogger Arrested After Pointing Firearm to Snatcher Who Attempts to Rob Him in Naga City
A well-known vlogger in Naga City became a victim of a snatching incident and, ironically, was later arrested on charges of brandishing a firearm.
According to PSMS Tobias Bongon, the Information Officer of the Naga City Police Office, the incident occurred around 8:00 PM on June 26, 2023, along Ninoy and Cory Avenue in Barangay Lerma, Naga City.
Bongon stated that the victim, vlogger Joseph Shea Paglinawan, a 34-year-old resident of Barangay Pacol, had arranged a meeting with his acquaintances, Adonis Carullo, 22 years old, and Fernando Bulaan, 23 years old, at the said location for a transaction.
However, unexpectedly, one of them snatched Paglinawan’s money amounting to P30,000.
Caught off guard, Paglinawan quickly drew his .22 caliber firearm and mistakenly pointed it at Ruel Sy, a 25-year-old waiter, believing him to be an accomplice of the two suspects. Sy immediately reported the incident to the authorities.
The barangay tanods quickly apprehended the two suspects, but the vlogger who brandished the gun did not escape the consequences either. He was also taken to the police station due to the complaint filed by the waiter regarding the firearm incident.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of exercising caution and restraint in confrontational situations. While becoming a victim of snatching is undoubtedly distressing, it is crucial for individuals to prioritize their safety and adhere to the proper legal procedures when dealing with criminal acts.
The Naga City Police Office emphasizes that individuals should avoid taking the law into their own hands and instead promptly report incidents to the authorities. It is the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to investigate and resolve such cases in a fair and just manner.
