Kind Couple Transformed Vacant Lot Into Basketball Court & Allows Anyone to Play for Free
In a remarkable display of passion for basketball and community development, a couple decided to purchase the vacant lot beside their house and transform it into a basketball court.
The husband and wife, both former basketball players during their school days and still actively participating in tournaments, eagerly agreed on this ambitious plan.
The newly created basketball court is open to everyone in the community. Regardless of age or background, children, adults, students, parents, tricycle drivers, and workers are all welcome to use the court.
To ensure that the court can be enjoyed day and night, the couple also installed solar lights, providing free illumination during evening games. There were several reasons behind their decision to create this basketball court:
- Keeping Youth Engaged: By providing a space for sports and recreation, the couple aims to divert the attention of young people away from negative influences and vices. Engaging them in sports activities fosters a sense of discipline, camaraderie, and healthy competition.
- Building Community Unity: The basketball court serves as a common area where neighbors can gather, play, and engage in conversations. This fosters closer relationships among community members, strengthening the sense of belonging and unity.
- Training Ground for Young Aspiring Players: The couple recognizes the opportunity to train their own children, who are beginners in basketball, in the comfort of their own home. The basketball court offers a safe and accessible space for them to learn and develop their skills.
With this project, the couple hopes to make a positive impact not only in their barangay but also in their city. They aspire to see the fruits of their efforts, with the possibility of a future professional basketball player emerging from their community, who may one day join the ranks of the PBA or MPBL.
