Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Surigao del Norte, May 18, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 3.5 magnitude quake in Burgos, Surigao del Norte today, Thursday, May 18, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Surigao del Norte. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 3.5.

The earthquake that struck Surigao del Norte, today, Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 03:25 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Burgos.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Norte was located at 10.11°North, 126.03°East – 011 km North 26° West of Burgos. It had a depth of focus of 018 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording bureau, no intensity was felt nor recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensities were recorded as well.
