DTI says PHP 500 for a simple Noche Buena is enough.
Over 100 Noche Buena items have retained their prices, and recently, the DTI expressed confidence that a PHP-500 budget would be enough.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) previously released a Noche Buena price guide for this year, and some items have retained their cost. These are the items commonly purchased for the Christmas Eve meal, and more than 100 have retained their prices.
The DTI said some items saw price increases due to higher costs of ingredients, packaging and labor.
Recently, it has been reported that DTI believed a budget worth PHP 500.00 is enough for a simple Christmas Eve meal. This is the same thing they said each year. In 2022, diskarte is what government officials insisted that Filipino people must accordingly exercise in these parlous times.
In 2022, DTI’s “Noche buena budget shopping” guide prescribes the following: American ham (500 grams), PHP 163; “Pinoy” pandesal (250 g), PHP 23.50; keso (cheese, 200 g), PHP 41.75; pasta (800 g) and spaghetti sauce (1 kg), PHP 112.00; giniling (pork, 1/8), PHP31.25; and fruit cocktail (822 g) and Kremdensada (410 ml), PHP 116.50. This can feed a family of four or five.
This year, DTI said the same.
With the right planning, this is challenging but doable. This is if the goal is to keep it simple, meaningful, and budget-friendly.
However, this is a tight budget for a traditional Filipino Noche Buena, especially if you’re feeding a family. Many classic dishes like ham, queso de bola, spaghetti, and desserts usually cost more.
