LTO to Remove E-bikes From Major Roads Starting December 1, 2025

E-bikes or electric bikes are set to be removed from major roads starting December 1, 2025, according to LTO.

Starting next month, e-bikes and e-trikes will no longer be allowed to travel on major roads as authorities move to regulate their growing number and ensure public safety.

The decision was emphasized during the budget deliberations for the proposed 2026 budget of the Department of Transportation. Senator JV Ejercito shared that the Land Transportation Office, led by Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, committed to begin apprehending e-trikes using main thoroughfares.

Ejercito explained that although some local governments reportedly allowed their operation on bigger roads, the LTO maintains that they should not be there in the first place.

The issue gained attention after Senator Raffy Tulfo raised concerns about the rising complaints involving e-bikes. Many road users have observed that e-bikes now dominate the streets, a role once associated with traditional jeepneys.

Tulfo pointed out that some e-bike riders carry passengers without proper licenses, registration, or insurance, making the situation more worrying for both commuters and other motorists.

Ejercito assured that the DOTr will coordinate with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and local government units to enforce the new rules. The goal is to address safety concerns and manage the increasing number of e-bikes that often operate without meeting basic regulatory requirements.

Starting Monday (December 1), the LTO will begin apprehending e-trikes and other similar vehicles found on major roads. Authorities emphasize that the move is not meant to ban e-bikes entirely but to ensure they stay in safer areas where they do not pose risks to passengers and other road users.

The social media users expressed their reactions to the announcement:
