Man Spotted Stealing Telecommunication Wires in Quezon City Arrested

Police authorities arrested a man who was spotted cutting and stealing telecommunication wires in Quezon City.

Members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) apprehended a 35-year-old man for reportedly cutting communications cable wires in Quezon City’s barangay Siena. The culprit was identified as John Pearanda, 35, of Barangay 372, Blumentritt, Manila, according to the report.

According to PLTCOL Romil Avenido, Station Commander of the QCPD’s La Loma Police Station (PS 1), the suspect was apprehended at about 11:00 p.m. While on patrol, PS 1 operatives noticed the cutting of the cables at the top of the PLDT pole during the initial investigation.

The officers approached the suspect and instructed him to come down from the pole before arresting him. A PLDT Copper Cable Wire FSF 300 pairs x 0.6 Gauge x 14 meters valued at P18,916.00 and a saw were recovered from the suspect, based on the report.

He will face charges for violating R.A. 10515, also known as the 2013 Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act. Meanwhile, a group responsible for cable theft in Bacolod City has been discovered.

An organized crime group is responsible for the recent wave of cable and wire theft from utility poles in Bacolod City. The members of the organization, according to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), wear clothes from several telecommunications companies (telcos) and drive trucks equipped with a ladder.
