Two students were killed and 10 others were injured when a pick-up truck plowed into them as they walked along the side of the road in Salcedo, Eastern Samar.

The driver of the vehicle was reportedly asleep at the wheel when the incident occurred. The students were said to have been returning home from Salcedo Vocational High School when they were hit by the truck on Wednesday in Barangay Naparaan.

According to the police, the driver, Manuel Waniwan, claimed he fell asleep while driving, resulting in the accident. The Department of Education Eastern Samar Division identified the victims as students aged between 17 and 19 years old.
