2 Solon Revealed Some PNP Members are Still Conducting Illegal Buy-Bust Operations

Two (2) solon revealed that some members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) are still conducting illegal buy-bust operations.

According to reports, the PNP’s unlawful buy-bust operation is still active. This was revealed during the resumption of the House Public Order and Safety Committee’s hearing on the illegal buy-bust operation involving PNP Regional Office 4A.

PNP Illegal Buy-Bust Operations

Antipolo City Rep. Romeo Acop disclosed that since the committee launched the hearing on the topic, he has received calls from people who claim to be victims of illegal police operations. He stated that he received a call from a Bucalan resident who was a victim of the illicit operation.

“After nakita or naipalabas sa Facebook `yung hearing na `yun, my office has received a call from a citizen of, resident of Bulacan under the jurisdiction of Congressman Boy Cruz. Sinasabi na ganun din ang nangyari sa kanilang kamag-anak,” according to Acop.

Acop further stated that he received a call from Tagaytay stating that the same incident happened to them. This appears to be where the PNP’s illegal anti-drug operations are currently lacking concentration, based on the report.

Acop, a former PNP officer, presented a resolution seeking that an investigation be conducted into the complaint of one Viktoria Perito over the alleged illegal buy-bust operation carried out by Antipolo Police operatives on October 13, 2022.

According to Perito’s evidence, he was with his 8-year-old kid when they were thrown into a police car and driven around for nearly two hours while being beaten and pressured to admit to being a drug dealer.

Meanwhile, former police officer and 1-Rider party-list Rep. Bonifacio Bosita has accused the PNP of using quotas in its anti-drug campaign. Bosita feels that certain police officers are forced to disobey the law in order to meet their station’s quota.

Bosita recalled being assigned as the chief of a station, and every Monday they report whether or not they have met their quota. “Parang kapag ikaw ay chief of police at hindi mo na-meet `yung quota parang ang ramdam mo anytime mare-relieve ka na eh, one of the reasons why napabilis `yung aking pagreretiro actually three years pa dapat bago ako mag-retire.”
