UB Law Graduate Becomes First Blind Lawyer After Passing 2022 BAR Exams

A blind UB law graduate Anthony Mark Dulawan Emocling becomes the first blind attorney in the country after passing the 2022 BAR exams.

Disability, while it may affect limbs and senses, does not hinder the spirit. Anthony Mark Dulawan Emocling, a law student from the University of Baguio Law School, has made history as the first blind attorney in the Philippines upon successfully completing the 2022 Bar Examination.

Emocling, who hails from Baguio and is the son of a local taxi driver, has overcome numerous challenges to achieve this remarkable feat.

During the exams, the Supreme Court provided him with an encoder to make the process less arduous. Emocling acknowledged the importance of being prepared to put in double the effort as visually-impaired individuals often face limited access to study materials.

The blind BAR passer recounted how he started listening to the radio during the impeachment of former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada, despite recently losing his vision, which becomes his motivation to pursue a career in law,

Despite the odds, Emocling’s hard work paid off, as he reportedly ranked 1,407 out of 3,992 successful Bar examinees in 2022.
