Teacher Requests Aircon From DepEd Due To Excessive Heat in Classroom

A female teacher requested DepEd to provide an air-conditioning unit for her classroom. “Kawawa na po ang mga bata sa sobrang init”.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), hotter weather can still be expected in May. Filipinos are currently experiencing hot and humid weather condition during this summer season.

A Facebook user named Yannie Lim publicizes her appeal to the Department of Education. Lim who is a teacher from the province of Rizal shared on social media the issue of extreme heat in classrooms, stating that electric fans are no longer sufficient.

The teacher pleaded for the school calendar to be moved back to June to March or, alternatively, for air conditioning units to be provided in classrooms.

Despite efforts to use multiple electric fans, the teacher stated that the heat inside the classrooms is still unbearable, causing distress for both the students and the teacher.

The post was signed off with a heartfelt message from the teacher, expressing frustration and concern for their own health due to the high blood pressure caused by the challenging classroom conditions.

It can be recalled that Senator Sherwin Gatchalian previously suggested moving the school vacation period to April and May due to the excessive heat, but Department of Education (DepEd) spokesperson Michael Poa responded saying that this decision is not rushed or hurried.

Dear DepEd Philippines, kung di niyo po ibabalik sa June to March ang pasukan, atleast bigyan niyo na lang po kami ng aircon. Kahit sampung electric fan pa ang paandarin namin, mainit pa rin ang singaw ng hangin. Kawawa na po ang mga bata sa sobrang init.
