Police Authorities Arrest Father of Private School Owner for Assaulting Teacher
The father of a private school owner has been arrested by the police authorities for assaulting a teacher due to a misunderstanding.
A retired member of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and father of the owner of a private school in Barangay Cotcot, Liloan town was arrested for assaulting a teacher in the early morning of Sunday (March 19, 2023).
Paolo Catarina Mollena, a 24-year-old single male and Lumad from the town of Catmon who teaches at the Academic and Skills Development School in the area, sought police assistance due to an altercation.
Ferdinand Laurente Manto, a 56-year-old widowed retired PCG member from Dapdap, Barangay Catarman, Liloan, was detained at the Liloan Police Station.
According to Police Master Sgt. Nelson Sadile, investigator at the Liloan Police Station, at around 1:29 am on Sunday, the teacher reported the incident to their office.
Sadile said he was monitoring the students during their camping activity in the school. The suspect, who is the father of the school owner, approached the teacher and ordered him to look for a school employee inside the school campus.
But the teacher was busy taking care of the students, so he did not comply immediately, and the suspect became angry. The victim was hit and commotion ensued, causing the students to become frightened.
After the assault, the teacher went outside the school and asked for help from his companion, and went to the police station. The police quickly responded and arrested the suspect.
Manto asked for forgiveness for his mistake. He expressed regret for what he had done and said that his blood pressure rose at that time.
