Pastor Dies in Just 25 Days After Trying to Fast for 40-Days Like Jesus

After Attempting to Fast for 40 Days Like Jesus, Pastor Died in Just 25 Days

A 39-year-old pastor passed away just 25 days into his attempt to fast for 40 days without food and water like Jesus.

The founder of the Santa Trindade Evangelical Church, Francisco Barajah, passed away at a Beira hospital where he was taken in critical condition. He had not eaten or drunk for 25 days and had become so weak that he was unable to stand.

The pastor passed away at the age of 39. Barajah’s family and supporters insisted that he was taken to the hospital. Mr. Barajah was diagnosed with acute anemia and his digestive organs had failed.

Although doctors attempted to rehydrate him and give him liquid food, it was too late and he passed away on Wednesday (February 15, 2023). In addition to being a pastor, he was a French teacher at a town in the Manica province, which borders Zimbabwe.

While it was not unusual for Mr. Barajah and his followers to fast, it was uncommon for them to fast for such a prolonged period of time. His brother, Marques Manuel Barajah, acknowledged that the pastor had been fasting but disputed the medical diagnosis of his death, claiming that his brother had low blood pressure.

However, it was not stated how the pastor survived for 25 days without food and water.

The Austrian teenager who was left in a detention cell by police in 1979 set the Guinness World Record for the longest period of time a person survived without food and water—18 days.

Furthermore, it is not specifically stated in the Scriptures that Jesus fasted for 40 days without drinking any water. The gospels of Matthew and Luke state that Christ was “hungry” and “ate nothing” in their descriptions of the “Temptation of Christ.”
