JK Labajo on Being Directed by Darryl Yap: “No, definitely don’t want”

JK Labajo Doesn’t Want to Be Directed by Controversial Director Darryl Yap

Singer Juan Karlos “JK” Labajo revealed that he doesn’t want to be directed by the controversial director Darryl Yap.

The “Buwan” singer was asked if he would work with Darry Yap during the premiere night of Atty Vince Taada’s film “Ako Si Ninoy” at Rockwell Cinema. The actor-singer stated unequivocally that he would not work with him.

“No, I definitely don’t want to be directed by Darryl Yap. I don’t want to work with him,” JK answered without hesitation.

He stated that it is not merely a personal choice. Thus the question was raised as to whether it was still due to politics. It should be noted that during the May 2022 elections, JK was one of the supporters of former Vice President Leni Robredo, who was engaged in the campaign, whilst Darryl was a major supporter of current President Bongbong Marcos.

Meanwhile, the young actor was asked about his reactions in the aftermath of politically charged work such as controversial director Darryl Yap’s “Maid in Malacanang” and Tanada’s “Katips,” both of which were box office successes. According to the actor, there is a “film war” brewing presently as a result of multiple series of films with political intent.

“We all have the freedom when it comes to making art but I am not really sure if I have a positive opinion when it comes to changing history,” said JK in the interview.

“That’s definitely something else. But at the end of the day, we’re just making a film, following what’s on the books of what we learned in school,” he added.
