Man Lands Faces Jail Time for Animal Abuse
ANIMAL ABUSE – A man lands in jail for allegedly dousing a chained dog with hot water in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.
Animal abuse is a cruel and inhumane practice that involves mistreating, harming, or neglecting animals. This kind of abuse is unacceptable and goes against the principles of empathy and compassion that we as humans should uphold.
There are several forms of animal abuse, including physical abuse, neglect, abandonment, and even psychological abuse. In many cases, animals are treated as nothing more than objects to be used and abused for human entertainment or profit.
On Sunday dawn, (February 19, 2023), the police authorities arrested a 23-year-old man, identified as Jason Caparida Fuentes, and a resident of Teves Compound in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City. He was accused of pouring hot water on a chained dog.
Patrolman Glendale Cabaero of the Mambaling Police Station is investigating the issue after receiving a complaint from a neighbor, Gina Candia Lusido, 46.
According to Lusido, Fuentes lives with his father, who works as a mechanic for a taxi company in the area. She heard about the incident from another neighbor and reported it to her elder brother.
When her brother confronted Fuentes, he admitted to pouring hot water on the dog because it had barked at him. Lusido also said that Fuentes had done the same thing to a stray cat the previous night.
The suspect will face charges for violating the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, as stated by Cabañero.
