Earthquake Camarines Norte: Vinzons Mayor Speaks on Damages Caused by Quake

EARTHQUAKE CAMARINES NORTE – Vinzons Mayor Eleonor Segundo spoke on the damages caused by the 4.8 magnitude quake that hit the town today.

The Philippines is one of the countries usually hit by earthquakes. Today, January 17, 2022, Phivolcs recorded a 4.8 magnitude quake jolted Vinzons, Camarines Norte. The quake hit the town at 5:57 this morning and the shaking of the ground was felt in several areas.

With regards to the damages caused by the earthquake in Camarines Norte, Vinzons Mayor Eleanor Segundo expressed that a school was damaged due to the quake. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the town Mayor revealed that five (5) classrooms in Banocboc Elementary School were damaged due to the quake. The classrooms have several cracks and will not be used anymore as to the town Mayor.

Mayor Segundo expressed that no government buildings and facilities were damaged by the earthquake in Camarines Norte this morning. Based on the report, there are zero casualties and the power supply in the town is normal.

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Camarines Norte, January 17, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.8 magnitude quake in Camarines Norte today, Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

Following the 4.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted Maguindanao del Norte a few days ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Camarines Norte. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.8.

The earthquake that struck Camarines Norte, January 17, 2023, was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Tinaga Island.

Earthquake Ilocos Norte

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Camarines Norte was located at 14.45°North, 123.05°East – 012 km South 76° East of Tinaga Island (Vinzons) with a depth of focus of 001 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. Based on the record released, the following intensities and instrumental intensities were recorded of the said quake:
