Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Batanes, January 6, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 3.5 magnitude quake in Itbayat, Batanes today, Friday, January 6, 2023.

Following the 4.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted Maguindanao del Norte a few days ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Batanes. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 3.5.

The earthquake that struck Batanes today, January 6, 2023, was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Itbayat.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Batanes was located at 21.04°North, 121.19°East – 074 km North 68° West of Itbayat with a depth of focus of 026 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that no damages are expected from the said quake but as well as aftershocks. Based on the record released, no intensity was recorded of the said quake at the epicenter as well as nearby areas. No instrumental intensities was recorded of the said quake as well.
