Labor Groups Try to Counter Check Noche Buena Products Suggested by DTI for P500
A labor group has flexed the Noche Buena products they bought worth P500 as suggested by the Department of Trade and Industry.
Over the past few weeks, the Department of Trade and Industry received backlash and criticisms from the internet users after proposing a list of food items that Filipinos can buy for less than 500 pesos for the traditional Christmas evening dinner.
DTI Undersecretary Ruth Castelo said Filipino consumers should be practical and encourage the public to look for bundles because they will save a lot.
“Kailangan talagang maging wais ang consumer. Sa price guide, we encourage na konsultahin nila. Tumingin ng bundled products kasi makikita mo ang savings,” Reyes said.
The agency even showed a sample computation showing that P500 would be enough for a fare of spaghetti, fruit salad, bread, cheese, and ham.
The Facebook page “Pilipino Star Ngayon Digital” has shared photos of grocery products worth P500 as suggested by DTI for Noche Buena. The post garnered negative reactions from the online community.
The members of Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) and Kilos Na Manggagawa bought food items for Noche Buena based on the list released by Trade and Industry Department. The agency reported that Filipino families can have Noche Buena for P488.
However, the group spent a total amount of P570 to purchase all the food items. The organization posts the photos to countercheck DTI’s suggestion. KMU also seeks salary hikes for Filipino workers.
The social media users expressed their reactions to the post:
