FILIPINO CHRISTMAS NOCHE BUENA – Every Filipino table surely has these scrumptious dishes during a special occasion such as Christmas.
Christmas is just a couple of weeks away from now and apart from gifts, what people are actually excited about is the food. Except for reunions, get-togethers, gift-giving, and conversations, food binds people together and food makes people bond.
And surely, there is nothing we won’t give to have the Christmas Eve feast we call Noche Buena. During this event, we definitely have our eyes and appetite focused on our Noche Buena favorites.
Here are some that will absolutely give you a festive and nostalgic feeling:
- Christmas Ham
Apart from Lechon, this is also among the highlights of the celebration. Everyone has always loved its sticky, sweet glaze and meaty but soft insides.
A simbang-gabi won’t be complete without a bite of this Christmas dessert. This dessert topped with desiccated coconut, brown sugar, and melted butter is what makes the mornings of days leading to Christmas.
- Puto Bumbong
Its distinct purple is not the only that makes it attractive but the taste, most especially. And just like bibingka, it is also topped with desiccated coconut, brown sugar, and butter but people have found other ways to improve this by adding cheese, condensed milk, and others.
- Fruit Salad
The milky and sweet taste from a bowl of this always satisfies the sweet Christmas craving we all have. It also has a pretty appearance coming from the different colors of the fruits included in this dish.
- Macaroni Salad
What’s a party without this, right? This is a cold mayonnaise-based salad and is best served if chilled. It is also ideal because you won’t exert any effort if you want to eat this again. The morning after Christmas, you can just take it out and eat directly. Basic and no cooking required.
- Fruit Cake
Some people have a love-and-hate relationship with this traditional Christmas staple. It is very elaborate with all the preserved fruits soaked in brandy, nuts, and spices put in there.
These balled and fluffy pastries with whipped butter, sugar, and flooded with grated cheese on top are a favorite thing people to bring as a putlock or gifting. The sweet and salty flavor in every bite makes it very addicting.
- Queso de Bola
This ball of cheese wrapped in red wax is the perfect partner for sliced ham and pandesal and the rest of it to be grated on other dishes.
- Pinoy Spaghetti
The sweet and juicy is not only a classic every Christmas but also on all kinds of occasions. It is affordable, simple, and tied to many of our childhood memories.
