BI Personnel Intercepted Human Trafficking Attempt at NAIA

Attempted Human Trafficking at NAIA Intercepted by Personnel of BI

Personnel of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) intercepted an alleged human trafficking attempt at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

According to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, they stopped a human trafficking syndicate’s attempt to smuggle a family of four Arab nationals into the United Kingdom. Tansingco said four passengers, a mother and her three children, were intercepted at NAIA terminal 3 after attempting to board a Cathay Pacific flight to Hongkong bound for the UK.

According to Tansingco, the foreigners presented their Seychelles passports to the airline and immigration officials who questioned the authenticity of their travel documents. In the examination conducted by BI’s forensic documents laboratory, it was confirmed that the passports presented were fake, based on the report.

“The foiled human trafficking attempt was the handiwork of an international syndicate that attempts to use Manila as a transit or jump-off point for its victims,” Tansingco added.

Atty Carlos Capulong, BI port operations chief, said the passengers arrived in Manila on November 6 and stayed for more than two weeks before booking their outbound flight. The BI personnel also obtained from the passengers their UK national identity cards which were found to be fake.
