DepEd Releases Christmas Party Guidelines

DEPED – The Department of Education issued an order stating that the contribution and participation to Christmas parties must be voluntary.

During the holiday season in the Philippines, many people attend several Christmas parties. In the case of the students, these events include the ones they celebrate with their classmates and teachers and their families. In the case of teachers, they usually have Christmas celebrations with their advisory class at school, with their fellow faculty members, and their respective families.

For this year, the Department of Education stressed on its mandate that Christmas party contribution and participation must be “voluntary”, The education department released order by DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, on the order citing the Christmas party guidelines, the Education Secretary stressed that Christmas celebrations in schools and DepEd offices must be “simple yet meaningful, keeping in mind the true spirit of the season”.

Based on the order, the participation on Christmas events is not mandatory and should not lead to expenses that will be burden on the part of the students, parents, and personnel of the education department.

While the contribution and participation to a Christmas party is voluntary, DepEd also clarified that no one should be exccluded from joining a Christmas party just because he or she failed to contribute. The education department encourages the use of old decorations instead of purchasing new ones.

Furthermore, Christmas parties can be done during the class hours as long as the events do not interfere with the schedule with regards to the topic that should be discussed. Based on the report, the education department does not allow solicitations may it be in the form of cash or in kind for Christmas events.

The private schools have the freedom to abide by the Christmas party guidelines set by DepEd.
