Mariel Padilla admitted that she is a K-drama fan
TV host Mariel Padilla defended her husband Senator Robin Padilla‘s statement on K-dramas and K-actors.
Robin echoed the views of his fellow Senator and showbiz personality Jinggoy Estrada. They think that Filipinos are more indulgent in watching movies and series from South Korea and listening to K-pop than the materials from Pinoy productions and artists.
Because of that, Robin, as well as Jinggoy, received negative reactions, especially from K-drama and K-pop fans in the Philippines.
In a recent interview, based on the article in Newsko, Mariel Padilla, a self-confessed fan of K-drama, defended what her husband said. “Bilang ako ay K-drama viewer, K-drama fan ako, I think hindi siya naintindihan,” she said.
The TV host also said that now her husband is in the position, he wants to help the Philippine entertainment industry. “Ang point lang naman niya, ‘yung ‘wag kalimutan ‘yung atin. Kasi ako, nakikita niyang nanonood ako. ‘Yun lang ang ‘me time’ ko. Makikita niya ako sa kusina, ‘O, Korean na naman?’” Mariel explained.
She also stressed that Robin has nothing against Koreans and that he is not angry with them. Mariel also stressed that her husband does not hate K-dramas.
The TV host further explained that at times, her husband would wonder why she is gushing over a K-drama star who is not that handsome, according to Robin’s perception. She also shared that Robin would ask why K-dramas reached global popularity. The Senator cited that it is because Koreans are supporting their own and the same goes with productions from Hollywood.
“So, sino pa ang magsusuportahan kung hindi tayu-tayo rin,” Mariel said. Meanwhile, the former It’s Showtime host shared that her TV comeback is supported by her husband but her priorities will still be their daughters.
