Isko Moreno Warns Fusion Alley May Face Closure

Isko Moreno Draws the Line on Fusion Alley Problems

ISKO MORENO – Mayor Isko Moreno has made it clear that business opportunities should never come at the expense of cleanliness and public order.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has issued a firm warning that Fusion Alley, the well-known food strip in Sampaloc, could be shut down if ongoing complaints regarding sanitation and cleanliness are not addressed.

The mayor met with vendors during a consultation at Manila City Hall on Thursday after residents expressed concerns about the area. Among the issues raised were the accumulation of garbage, unpleasant odors, excessive noise, and the overall condition of the surroundings.

During the meeting, Moreno emphasized that while the city supports small businesses and entrepreneurship, vendors must also fulfill their responsibility to maintain order and cleanliness.

“My warning was clear. If I see them being dirty and untidy, I would not hesitate to shut it down. I support people’s livelihoods, but there must also be order, cleanliness and discipline,” Moreno said.

The discussion came after a student voiced the concerns of nearby residents during a public forum, highlighting the inconvenience brought about by the food strip’s current condition.

Although he acknowledged the complaints, Moreno also pointed out the positive impact Fusion Alley has had on many entrepreneurs. He noted that the food strip has provided opportunities for vendors to grow their businesses and improve their financial situation.

“It created an opportunity, business. All that I am asking of them is for the street to be usable and passable in the morning,” he said.

To help resolve the sanitation concerns, the mayor directed Manila’s Department of Environment and Public Services to carry out routine flushing operations in the area. The initiative aims to eliminate foul odors, remove waste, and improve overall cleanliness for both residents and visitors.

Moreno stressed that the city government remains committed to balancing public welfare with economic opportunities. He assured residents that every complaint is taken seriously while recognizing the importance of supporting individuals who rely on the food strip for their livelihood.

“As I have said before, even if only one person raises a complaint, we listen. But, I also understand the aspirations of our fellow Filipinos who are trying to earn a living,” Moreno said.

The mayor expects vendors to comply with sanitation standards to ensure Fusion Alley can continue operating without disrupting the surrounding community.
