Barbie Forteza has the chance to wear traditional Filipino costume for her soap opera
Kapuso actress Barbie Forteza admitted that it was not easy wearing the “baro’t saya” for her critically-acclaimed TV series, Maria Clara at Ibarra.
In the series, from modern times, Barbie’s character Maria Clara “Klay” Infante was transported to the past where she meets the characters in Jose Rizal’s novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.
Avid viewers and celebrities have been expressing praise to the series and the cast for presenting a new flavor in their primetime viewing routine. Barbie has trended on social media several times for surprising viewers with her acting prowess.
As her character went back to the Spanish era, she had to wear the elaborate “baro’t saya” as well. In a recent interview, based on the article in GMA Entertainment, Barbie Forteza shared her thoughts on wearing the said costume.
“Mahirap siya talaga and considering na every day namin siyang ginagawa, not just like ‘yung Halloween na isang araw mo lang pag-e-effort-an ‘di ba, ito, everyday ganito,” the actress shared.
They should make sure that every detail is on point but Barbie enjoys the process. In order for the series to depict the Spanish era realistically, their costumes need to follow.
Meanwhile, Barbie was not able to attend The Sparkle Spell, the first-ever Halloween Party of Sparkle GMA Artist Center because she was taping for Maria Clara at Ibarra.
However, she said that she is happy to see her co-stars and fellow Kapuso stars. Actress Andrea Torres, who plays Sisa in MCAI, was able to attend the said event. Andrea’s costume was Ursula from The Little Mermaid. “Sabi ko, ‘Anong nangyari kay Sisa? Bakit naging violet?” Barbie Forteza said about her co-star.
To recall, Andrea became a trending topic on social media just recently because of her superb performance as Sisa. She was praised for shedding new light on the “baliw” character.
